The Miniscav is the one piece of inhalation sedation equipment R A Medical designs and manufactures itself — an active (vacuum-assisted) scavenging unit that removes waste nitrous oxide from the breathing circuit and vents it safely outside. It is the simplest, most reliable way for most practices to meet COSHH and HSE workplace-exposure management for N2O: standalone, independent of the surgery vacuum, and able to deliver the required 45 L/min extraction at the nasal mask. Powered by a dual-diaphragm vacuum pump, the Miniscav delivers a fixed flow of 42 L/min (within +/-3 L/min) at a fixed vacuum of 90 +/-10 mmHg, and exhausts to atmosphere via the supplied rigid external wall vent and 1-metre 15mm transfer hose. It works with active double-nasal-hood breathing circuits such as the Porter Brown and Accutron ClearView, and has been tested with Porter (MDM, MXR, Digital MDM), Accutron (Ultra PC, Digital Ultra) and McKesson mixer/flowmeter systems.
